Learning Support

"Strength lies in differences, not in similarities."

Welcome to Learning Support at VISP!

Our Learning Support department holds a very special place within our school. Although the name suggests that this is a department for supporting students with their cognition and learning, it actually means so much more than that. In order for children to be able to learn in school each day, they need to be ready to learn. They need to be emotionally regulated, feel comfortable, and have the tools and support in place to make this possible. Our Learning Support department does just that. Time is invested into the building of relationships with all students so that they have a safe place to go to if they are struggling, whether that be socially, emotionally, or academically.

We have a number of students who receive specific support for their Special Educational Needs. These students have a Student Passport in place which is personalised to the individual - we strive to provide support that is right for them within the resources and provisions that we are able to offer.

Detailed in these documents are any interventions to support students with barriers to learning.

For more information about our Learning Support Department, or if your child has additional needs that you would like to discuss, please contact the SENCO. Further information is also detailed in our Special Educational Needs Policy.

Vision

Our vision for children with educational needs is the same as for all children and young people.

We aim to identify additional needs at the earliest opportunity to ensure children have access to learning. Working closely with the young people, parents or carers and class teachers will mean that the right support is offered both within the classroom and sometimes through additional interventions to help overcome barriers to learning.

We provide support for those with additional and/or special needs in a variety of ways within the resources we have available. Further details can be obtained by arranging to speak with Ms Kathryn Cooper, SENCO.
